UPNet Award for Musical Excellence 2007

If no one else is going to do it, I will!

Announcing the prestigous award for musical excellence.

The award for Best Album of the Year goes to They Might Be Giants for The Else.

About the UPNet Awards:

The board very carefully picks the best-composed album based on aspects like Rockiness, Song Connectedness, Performance, Lyrics, Melody Invention, Composition, Inventiveness, and Loudness.

The board consists of one man who almost has an associate's degree in music and might someday transfer—I don't know, whatever.

Two Decades Long (EP)

For Gabriel's 20th birthday, Amir flew out to Ventura and he and I wrote five birthday songs in two days.

The album is called Two Decades Long. The tracks are

1. We Can't Stand
2. Looking at the Pictures
3. Interlude
4. You're 22
5. Gabe's Toes

Most of them are parodies of certain genres. And yes, we know Looking at the Pictures was poorly produced. Like, really poorly.

We Can't Stand music was written by Amir and Peter, words by Amir. Sung by Amir, guitarred by Peter.

Looking at the Pictures music was written by Amir and Peter, first verse words by Peter, second verse words by Amir. Guitar by both Amir and Peter, sung by both Amir and Peter.

Interlude written and performed by Peter.

You're 22 was improvised by Amir on the rhythm guitar, Peter on the second guitar, sung by Peter, backed up by Amir.

Gabe's Toes written and performed by Peter.

Check it out on the tunes page.

P.S. Gabe's Toes is our 25th song published.

Amir's Fists

I said to Amir (Feanor), "What should I write a song about?" He said, "My fists." This scene was very reminiscent of a year and a month ago when he said to me, "What should I write a song about?" And I said, "My hair."

So since my birthday present for him is already two months late, I'm making this a tide-you-over birthday present until I get the real present done. Happy Birthday.

The Computer Age & Humanistic Psychology

New song: The Computer Age

I won't say much.

I'd also like to point out that Feanor posted an old song of his called Humanistic Psychology, but didn't post about it. It's probably about a year and a half old. It was put up on his personal blog. We planned to rerecord it for the opening of UPNet, but didn't get it done—I don't remember why. Enjoy it, it's a good song. He wrote it as a study guide to help him on his Psychology final. Completely improvised.

Attack of the Kazoos and Fubaks

Here are two atonal songs:
  • Attack of the Kazoos
  • Fubaks

Fubaks goes way back. Kazoos I wrote like five minutes ago.

If you're wondering what Fubaks means, when I recorded the final recording of the song, my right hand was one key to the left on the keyboard, and I liked it so much I kept it.
